As Venezuela’s economy shows early signs of stabilization after years of contraction, one of the country’s most prominent private-sector institutions is launching a major initiative to support entrepreneurship and business formation.

Empresas Polar, the country’s largest privately owned industrial group, has announced a program designed to help create 1,000 new companies in Venezuela over the next 15 years. The initiative was presented during the company’s 85th anniversary celebration in March 2026 and will be implemented through Fundación Empresas Polar, its long-standing philanthropic and educational foundation.

The program seeks to strengthen Venezuela’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through three primary components: large-scale training for entrepreneurs, seed capital and mentoring for selected projects, and support for businesses operating within Empresas Polar’s broader value chain, including agricultural suppliers, logistics providers, and small manufacturers.

The initiative reflects a broader recognition within the Venezuelan private sector that economic recovery will depend not only on large industrial investments but also on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises capable of generating employment and rebuilding productive capacity.

Founded in 1941 as Cervecería Polar by businessman Lorenzo Alejandro Mendoza Fleury, Empresas Polar has evolved into a diversified consumer goods conglomerate with operations spanning food production, beverages, and distribution networks across Venezuela and parts of Latin America. Today the company produces a wide range of staple products—including the widely consumed Harina P.A.N. corn flour—and remains a central player in the country’s food supply chain.

This initiative could be monumental in its impact in the rebuilding of the country. Entrepreneurship and venture creation is at the heart of economic growth to pull the country from its miserable condition. Will the lawmakers be smart enough to support this by reducing or eliminating the useless and stupid regulations.

The company is led by Lorenzo Mendoza, grandson of the founder and one of Venezuela’s most prominent business figures. Mendoza joined the family enterprise in the late 1980s and later earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management before assuming leadership of the company. Under his direction, Empresas Polar has expanded its product portfolio and maintained extensive domestic manufacturing operations despite the country’s prolonged economic crisis.

The new entrepreneurship initiative represents a strategic effort to leverage the managerial experience, industrial networks, and training capacity of one of Venezuela’s most established companies to foster a new generation of private enterprises.

In a country where access to credit remains limited and the entrepreneurial ecosystem faces significant structural challenges, programs of this type could play an important role in shaping the next phase of Venezuela’s economic reconstruction. Full announcement: LINK.
